Gas Shortage

I don't know if all of you have heard, but the South is going through a HUGE gas shortage right now. Because we get the majority of our gas from Texas, when Hurricane Ike came through and all the refineries had to shut down, gas was nowhere to be found and what gas there was suddenly became $5 a gallon.

Gas stations everywhere are just closed because they have no gas. The bigger cities like Charlotte and Atlanta are especially struggling. They are literally without gas. YOU CANNOT GET GAS ANYWHERE WITHIN THE CITY!!! If someplace does happen to have gas (and they always only have regular, no one has premium gas ANYWHERE), there are lines of cars waiting for it. Greensboro has gotten a lot better than it was but most stations still only have regular gas.

Trip to Atlanta

For David's birthday in July, Heather, his mom, bought us tickets to see Les Miserables when it came to Atlanta. So this weekend all of us (Heather, David, Me, Courtney, Cameron, Jackson, and Caroline) made our way down to Atlanta to spend some time with David's wonderful Aunt Kimmie and go to the show. We had such a nice time! Here are pictures of some of our adventures!

Here's Jackson sleeping in the car on the long trip there.

I was so grateful that we had the opportunity to attend the Atlanta Temple while we were there. David and I went with Courtney and Cameron (David's sister and her husband) through a temple session and then we went out for ice cream. It was so fun just to be together as a family and have a nice little date night together!

David holding Caroline. She always stops crying when he holds her!
Since this trip was partially for David's birthday and since Courtney's birthday is this week, both of them got to blow out the candles on the cake (and Jackson helped too).
Jackson REALLY liked the cake...and the bath that occurred afterward.

Naky Baby News

As many of you know I am the proud new aunt of a baby girl. On August 24, David's sister, Courtney, had a little girl named Caroline May Howard (cute, huh!). I've had some requests for pictures, so here they are. I also included pictures of the nursery that Courtney made up for her (Sorry Courtney, I stole some of your pictures). It is the most adorable little girl's room you've ever seen!

Is there a better way to start a blog?

I've desperately been trying to determine what my first blog post should be about. Nothing I thought of felt worthy enough for me begin this oh-so-important first step in our blogging lives.

However, yesterday two of our friends, Kasie and Leslie, were baptized. I figure that there is no better way to start a blog than with a baptism. David and I were so blessed to have the opportunity to teach Kasie and Leslie the gospel in our home and, while Satan many times tried to drive us crazy, the spirit has also never been so strong in our home.

I spoke at the baptism yesterday and David had the opportunity to bless both of the girls today. The whole sequence of events has been wonderful and seems to have been one miracle after the other. We just happened to be in the right place at the right time to help Kasie and Leslie along their path to baptism.

I've included a picture from the baptism. Kasie is on the left, Leslie is on the right, and Elder Farnsworth is on the far right. Unfortunately the other elder who taught Kasie and Leslie, Elder Connors, was transferred two days before the baptism took place.

I also wanted to post a picture of our young women's program! I teach the Mia Maids and Laurels in our ward and just love it. We have a pretty small program (only two beehives, two mia maids, and one laurel) but the girls that we do have are amazing! I learn so much from them everyday.
